tour to Spain and Gibraltar — a fascinating and exciting
learning experience!
This very popular tour enables you to visit the cities of our Gedolei
Rishonim including, but not limited to, Barcelona (Rashba, Ba’al
Ha’Chinuch), Gerona (Ramban, Rabbeinu Yonah, Rabbeinu Azriel),
Toledo (Rosh,Tur,Ramah, Abulefia family), Cordova (Chasdai Ibn Shaprut,
Rambam Rebbe Yehudah HaLevi), Granada (Rebbe Shmuel HaNagid),
Malaga (Ibn Gvirol), Seville (Ritva, Abravanel family), and so
many more cities. An unforgettable Shabbat is spent davening,
eating and singing Zemiros in the beautiful Shomer Shabbat community
of Gibraltar.
In addition to these cities, Lucena, a city not found on your standard itineraries but, probably, the oldest Jewish settlement in Spain and the home of Rabbeinu Yitzchak Alfasi (11th Century) will be visited. For this tour, a special city, Besalau, home to one of the oldest Medieval Mikva’ot in the world.
A very thorough overview of Spanish Jewish history and an in-depth
appreciation of its various rabbis and leaders will be offered by a
serious scholar,
Ha'Rav Dr. Nosson Dovid Rabinowich, universally
recognized not only as a leading Talmid Chacham, but also as a leading
historian, specializing in the Geonic and Medieval periods.
As on all Jewish Heritage tours, the introductory Jewish history lectures,
Chumash Shiurim (this trip focusing on the Ramban’s and
Ibn Ezra’s commentaries) and Daf Yomi (emphasizing the Rosh’s
and Rashba’s commentaries) are also delivered by Ha’Rav
Dr. Rabinowich, who is also the noted author of eight very important
scholarly works.
Two delicious Glatt Kosher gourmet meals, as well as a filling boxed lunch, are served daily by
Micky Montal, our own personal caterer from the States.
All
land travel is with ultra-modern buses. There are personable and knowledgeable
local tour guides to teach the secular history of Spain and appreciation
of its art, museums and architecture, in Barcelona especially.
The four-star hotels are all of excellent quality. As is the case with all Jewish
Heritage tours, special attention will be made to accommodate singles.
